About the Author

Esther Chiu was born in Hong Kong. She and her parents, two brothers and one sister came to the United States when she was a year old. She earned a B.A. in International Relations from Scripps College in Claremont, California. After graduation, Esther lived in Los Angeles and worked in both banking and advertising. Subsequently, she moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion design, attending the Fashion Institute of Technology. While in New York, Esther also obtained a certificate in filmmaking from New York University. Despite her many interests, Esther’s one true desire has always been to be a writer. The Lobster and the Sea is her first children’s book, inspired by her own experience with her grandparents and her own search for "home."
