Author's Guidelines

Polychrome Publishing Corporation publishes domestic multicultural children's books for children of all ages. We are particularly interested in stories that feature protagonists who happen to be Asian American, African American, Hispanic, Latino or Native American and that include themes dealing with racial, ethnic and cultural diversity and tolerance. Both fiction and non-fiction will be considered. First time authors are welcome.

We are not interested in fables, folk tales, fairy tales or animal stories. As a general rule, we do not consider stories set in foreign countries.

Polychrome Publishing prefers to purchase rights to stories outright and pays authors semi-annual royalties. We will not consider purchase or license of limited rights.

Submissions should include a draft manuscript and a brief biography of the author. Picture book submissions need not include sample illustrations unless the submission is being made as an illustrator as well as an author. Please do not send originals; we will not be responsible for lost or damaged originals. Mail all submissions; submissions by fax or e-mail will not be considered. Submissions that do not include a self-addressed envelope with appropriate postage prepaid will not be returned nor will they receive a written response unless the story is accepted for publication. Those authors wishing for a detailed critique of their submittal, should understand that time constraints and the sheer volume of submittals prevent us from providing such a service automatically. If a detailed review and critique, including suggestions for improvement, is desired, we charge a fee of $100 for picture books and $250 for longer manuscripts. Editorial review fees should accompany submittals.
